carmina ocaña
Born in Madrid and trained in the Danish Classical Ballet School by Elna and Leif Ørnberg, former First Dancers and Directors of the Royal Danish Ballet. Graduated with Honors and Gold Medal at sixteen by the OSFP School and with Honors by the Royal School of Dramatic Arts and Dance of Madrid.
With a career in private education since 1968, she had her first success as a teacher in 1976 when her student, Trinidad Vives (former co-director of the Boston Ballet until 2011) became the first Spanish student to obtain the prestigious Lausanne Prize (Switzerland).
In conjunction with teaching, she was also Director of the National Classical Ballet School at its foundation.
She has been a Guest Teacher of the main companies in the country, such as the National Ballet of Spain, National Classical Ballet, Company of Víctor Ullate, Company of Joaquín Cortes ... in addition to many conservatories throughout Spain.
Since 2003 she shares the direction of the School with Pablo Savoye.
Her students today are in the main companies of the world: Nederlands Dans Theater, Stuttgart Ballet, Ballets of the Operas of Hamburg, Berlin, Zurich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Dresden, Leipzig, English National Ballet, Company of Maurice Béjart, Ballet of Cincinnati ( Ohio, USA), Phoenix Ballet (Arizona, USA), Charleston Ballet (USA), Scottish Ballet ... in addition to national groups such as the National Dance Company and National Dance Company II, National Ballet of Spain, Community Ballet of Madrid, Joaquín Cortés Company, Andalusian Dance Company, New Spanish Ballet, Iberian Dance, etc ...
The long trajectory of her work as a teacher has given her the satisfaction of seeing how some of her students, after finishing their time as professional dancers, have continued to be linked to this profession in the form of teachers, directors in companies, conservatories and private schools, therapists, critics and experts in Dance, high positions in the Administration of the world of Arts, dance entrepreneurs and a long etcetera that makes their work widely valued, respected and admired.
